Hello, I am a long time Calibre user. I don't use a lot of advanced functionality, usually I import (nonDRM) eBooks, update their covers/metadata, convert to ePub, and export to import into Marvin or whatever to read my books on my iPad.
I recently had a problem importing some books. I tried to import a group of books, and got the following error: calibre, version 2.81.0 ERROR: Errors while adding: Failed to add any books, click "Show details" for more information ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Failed to add the book: The Fall of the House of Cabal /Users/mks/Desktop/JLHFall of the House of Cabal.epub With error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/add.py", line 379, in add_book File "site-packages/calibre/db/legacy.py", line 217, in create_book_entry File "site-packages/calibre/db/cache.py", line 62, in call_func_with_lock File "site-packages/calibre/db/cache.py", line 1541, in create_book_entry File "site-packages/calibre/db/cache.py", line 1263, in set_metadata File "site-packages/calibre/db/cache.py", line 1090, in update_path File "site-packages/calibre/db/backend.py", line 1535, in update_path File "lib/python2.7/os.py", line 157, in makedirs OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/Users/Shared/eBooks/CalibreLibrary/Jonathan L. Howard/The Fall of the House of Cabal (3659)' I've checked the permissions on the path, they seem to be OK, and completed a disk check for corruption, no errors. Other books in the same batch were imported correctly. Any ideas? MKS |

1) Move it off the desktop to a regular folder.
2) was it open with some other program? |

Thanks for the reply.
It isn't open in another program. I tried moving to another folder and importing again, its the same error. The error isn't with reading the file, its with creating the destination folder. I checked and there isn't a folder with that name there already. MKS |

That is a permission denied error trying to create a directory. Either the parent directory has incorrect permissions, or you are running into some filesystem limits/bugs.
Since you seem to have placed it in the OS X shared folder, permissions issues are the most likely. |
