Free (Kindle) Gunsmoke in the Air by Alan David [Vanished Lawmen Mystery Western]
Gunsmoke in the Air by Alan David, a pseudonym for prolific multi-genre author Donald S. Rowland (ISFDB, SFE, Fantastic Fiction), is his standalone western historical action adventure novel, this one featuring mystery/suspense elements in a tale of mysteriously disappearing local lawmen and the newcomer who goes undercover to find out what misfortune befell his predecessors and incidentally avenge them if he may, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Pioneering imprint.
This was originally published in 1984 by Robert Hale using the pseudonym Charles Field. Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and pretty much every where else that Amazon sells worldwide, since this is being done via their KDP Select exclusive or else imprint) Description Fenton county sure does get through its fair share of federal lawmen. Coincidence or not, they usually go missing just after they’ve announced themselves to the local sheriff and his deputies. So when Tate Rogan turns up to track down one of his fellow officers, Mike Saltwell, undercover means undercover. Naturally, one of the first things Rogan does when he turns up is run into trouble with the Sheriff’s men, but it’s more than his life’s worth to tell them who he is. They want him out of town the next day so Rogan must work round the clock to solve the mystery and see if there’s any justice still left in Fenton. What happened to Mike? Who’s responsible for the cattle rustling and the two lawmen already found dead? Tate Rogan is prepared to lay down his life to bring justice to Fenton, but it’s starting to look like it will cost a lot more than that. He’s got a reputation for achieving the impossible, but is this finally a step too far? Gunsmoke in the Air races towards a violent and epic showdown that is guaranteed to leave you on the edge of your seat. |
