Determining which firmware

It sounds like 8842 should be avoided and instead wait for 4.3.8871; thus, I need to now how to recognize if it's available for syncing at kobo.com.

With respect to the KA1, how can I determine what firmware version my KA1 will be synced to if I go to kobo.com for syncing?

Thanks!

You can side load the new firmware in order to avoid 8842. Find the thread on the new firmware that has the links. The Aura One is a Mark 6 device.

John, Yes, I know, but I'm not in any hurry and I prefer to obtain firmware from kobo.com after it has "mellowed".

Is there no way to know which firmware kobo.com has on tap?

It will depend on your affiliate and other factors. For now, it appears that bol is the best affiliate choice to obtain 4.3.8871. OTOH, I've gotten 4.3.8871 with Kobo or KoboIndigo as the affiliates.

As I've answered you before, the only supported way of knowing what firmware is available is to sync and see. And based on ALL your posts, just do it. You believe you have problems and want to see if there are fixes for them. The only thing you can do is let the device update.

There are several unsupported ways to tell what is available. These have been heavily discussed in this forum, including in your previous threads asking how to know what firmware is available. I suggest you read them and make a decision about what is the best method for you.

David, thanks for responding!

Somehow I missed any discussions about "how to know what firmware is available" at kobo.com at anytime.

"You believe you have problems and want to see if there are fixes for them."

Nope! I'm not aware of any problems I have.

I have just read about numerous problems with 8842 and want to avoid possibly encountering them. It sounds like 8871 is the better upgrade option; thus, the reason for my inquiry as to how I might look for this version at kobo.com. You (and the silence otherwise) seem to indicate that I cannot determine which version is available at kobo.com except by syncing to whatever might be there.

There is no way to tell which version your reader is going to download in an OTA firmware update. You can make reasonably good guesses if you know your affiliate code, and changing your code is a good way to try and get a particular version, but it is never going to be 100% reliable.

The only reliable way of getting a specific version is sideloading, which I think you have said that you cannot do. Otherwise, wait until reports here suggest that the new version is now broadly available.

Set your affiliate to bol anf you'll get 4.3.8871. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot unless you side load 4.3.8871.
