EPub for Ingram Spark
I want to make my books available through Ingram Spark. They require EPUB 3 (not 3 enhanced). I converted a trial book to EPUB in Calibre (latest version) and tested it with the validator specified by Ingram Spark. The list of errors was enormous. Can anyone help me with this, please?

Since you don't specify the source format, can you please tell us? Somehow I suspect that you don't have and ePUB2 yet and are trying to convert to an ePUB from another source. Be aware that the outcome of such conversions can vary from bad to good, all depending on the source. |

Thank you for your reply. My books are stored in Calibre which then allows output to various formats, including what they call "EPUB" without any further explanation of what version that means. My hope is to export in EPUB from Calibre then convert it to EPUB3

OK, I've downloaded and installed sigil and the EPUB3 plugin per the recommendations above. It produced an EPUB3 that failed EpubCheck. I went back to the source, an EPUB file exported from Calibre. It too produced an EPUB that failed EpubCheck. EpubCheck reports that the Epub file from Calibre is v. 2.0.1. Now where to go. Half our catalogue (we are a publisher) is in Calibre and we would like an easy way to go to Epub3 rather than have to do the whole thing over again.

Some errors can be easily fixed by running a simple regex search in Calibre and/or Sigil. You might also be able to address these issues by modifying the source files that you used to generate the ePub2 files with Calibre. |

Well, if I could use EPUB3 I'll be happy anyway for more semantic tags and some nice things in CSS.

Thanks for the various replies.
I've worked out all the problems with converting my files to EPUB2 and 3. I can validate the resulting Epub2 with Epubcheck successfully. After working on EPUB3 with Sigil for a while, I got to the point of no errors at validation but I am getting this type of warning, with one warning for each line of the manifest that lists the document sections: WARNING OEBPS/content.opf 13 140 XHTML Content Document file name 'OEBPS/Text/Practical_Guide_to_the_Two_Truths.htm' should have the extension '.xhtml'. I have tried going into the content.opf file and manually changing each of the lines per the warning message, but that makes things worse, producing errors at validation. I have tried rebuilding the manifest using the option for doing so in Sigil but that just gets me back to the set of warnings explained above. Any ideas on how to solve this? If I can through this, I should be done, I think. Last edited by PKTC; 04-03-2016 at 02:59 AM. |
