Is the Wi-Fi on new Kindles different (better) than on 2 year old ones?
I have the basic (cheapest) Kindle from '15. It still works fine, including the battery, except for one thing: From Day 1, its Wi-Fi has always had a problem connecting to my router.
After a router reboot the Kindle's Wi-Fi works flawlessly, but then anywhere from ~2 - ~5 days after the reboot, it stops connecting or connects intermittently or very slowly. The firmware is now on 5.6.5. The problem existed on all previous firmware versions. The problem doesn't seem to exist with other routers, but I don't connect to them with the frequency that I connect to my home router. No other devices, Fires included, have this problem with my home router. My question is: What is the likelihood that the new basic Kindle or a Paperwhite would not have this problem? Does the new Basic Kindle have a different radio from the one from '15? Does the Paperwhite have a different radio? Thanks for any ideas. |

My older kindles have no trouble connecting to Wifi. So I would say, you just got a faulty one or your router doesn't like your kindle and the next one should be better.
Who is your ISP? That may have something to do with it, especially since rebooting the router fixes the problem. Also how old is your router? Is it a modem/router combination or two separate devices? Last edited by Cinisajoy; 02-20-2017 at 01:25 PM. |

I have had Kindles since 2011 and none of them had any problems with WiFi. So yes, either you got a lemon or there's something about your router.

My old Kindle Keyboard will not connect to Wireless "N". I found this out when I got a new router. It will connect to Wireless "B" or "G". This took me hours trying to solve. I suppose the newer wireless "N" was not around years ago and so the old Kindle does not know about it. Luckily, I have an option on my router for "B/G/N mixed" so I chose that.
