Actually, the comments about library ebooks are even more interesting... ...and revealing. The Kindle library selection will be "competitive" with what's offered by other readers. Not the same, huh? |

they are working with overdrive on it so it should be basically the same titles. which will probably mean it will be HARDER to borrow a book from the library because you will have all of those extra kindle users in line as well.....

Kindle users have a right to use the libraries we pay taxes for too. If that results in longer lines for other users, then there are longer lines.

And the original press announcement from Amazon and Overdrive made it clear that this will not diminish the number of books available.

Would it? WMAs and MP3s of the same book have 2 different wait times (ie the WMA has a waiting list, the MP3 is available), maybe the books will be the same.

Libraries aren't going to be buying separate Kindle versions. The existing book (ePub, etc.) will be marked as checked out and the Kindle user will receive a compatible version from Amazon's servers.

Can you link the article explaining all that? I haven't found one that explains the process.

i dont believe i implied anything to the contrary. the libraries only have so many copies to lend. they wont get more to lend. so if you increase the number of people able to borrow the wait times will be longer. and wasnt there something recently about the publishers limiting the number of times in a year the book can be borrowed from a library?

I will still read on my Kindle when I buy a tablet. I like the e-ink screen too much to do otherwise.
