Connecting a PW2 to wifi with no internet
Hi,
Just checking something please. I have a wifi network that has no Internet attached to it and the PW2 is refusing to join the wifi network. The only thing I can find to do is add a "WIFI_NO_NET_PROBE" file in / ? Anything else to do? The PW2 has been jailbroken back to firmware 5.4.3.2 btw but I am not sure if this has any bearing on this, I think probably not. |

So you have a wifi router but no internet provider.
With no internet, it can't connect to Amazon servers. It may be the type of connection. I read that yesterday in a post over in developers. See here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=16 Last edited by Cinisajoy; 04-01-2017 at 10:54 AM. Reason: Editing to add link. |

And that is in the visible top level of the USB storage system, not in the root ("/") of the Kindle's filesystem. |

Something is broken/not right then
![]() This is slwo to test as I can only get access once a week (on a Saturday afternoon) as the wifi network has to be assembled. So I re-added no wifi probe and tested yesterday and still no joy. My pw2 works fine btw, the second does not. It can see the network fine it just refuses to join as it cant "ping" amazon I assume. Pain in the ass ![]() The only difference is my pw2 accidentally upgraded from a working 5.4.3.2 to 5.6.x while jailbroken and then I flashed it back to make it work again. This non-working PW2 is on the 5.4.3.2 factory firmware it refuses to flash the consumer version of 5.4.3.2. So I was thinking I'd flash it to 5.6 consumer and then try and flash it back to 5.4.3.2? |

Ah wait 1, it is still un-registered, it seems to have failed doing so presumably as its too old a firmware and Amazon is blocking it?

1) Amazon is not blocking because of older firmware, older firmware just does not support the improved security of their servers.
2) Why do you feel you need 5.4.3.2? Perhaps there is another answer for you than run out-of-date firmware. 3) Correct, the consumer firmwares have "downgrade protection", which is one of the reasons you have to use the factory, production line test, firmware. 4) Go to your account page at Amazon and register it from there, or have customer service register it for you. (Neither of which will allow it to connect to Amazon until you install a recent enough firmware version.) 5) And, yes: WIFI_NO_NET_PROBE does work and is all you need to connect to an access point that does not have network access. IF you are running a consumer firmware build. |
