Troubleshooting Kindle Gen 8 File Transfer

Just got a brand new Kindle Gen 8. Also just realized you can no longer copy files to the device and have them appear unless I'm missing something. Does anyone know if there's an app to do this or if Calibre has a plugin to restore my library to the new device without having to email each book separately or use the Windows plugin that sends books one at a time?

You are probably doing something wrong. No one else has reported a problem with sideloading books to an 8th gen kindle.

The basic procedure is connect to a PC via USB and copy book files in Kindle format into the "documents" directory.

@jhowell: Probably another case of "All" vs "Downloaded", and "All" not being really all book but just renamed "Cloud" filter ?

@ALHawk69: Make sure that active view (active filter) is set to "Downloaded", on the top left corner and you should see your USB transferred books.

All = Cloud = books archived on your Amazon account (= doesn't show books that were not sent using email or "Send to Kindle" app)
Downloaded = books that are actually on the Kindle itself (including those sent via USB cable)

Also the 'item filter' needs to be 'All Items' or 'Docs' or you will not see them listed.
