Kobo Aura One Rant

Not really a rant, I just wanted your attention.

I love reading on the thing, but seriously, who else thinks the power light being exactly where your thumb is when your pushing the power button was a dumb idea? Waking it from sleep? Whatever. But powering it on? It's hard to find a worse spot.

Minor issue, but a fair point that I'd agree with.

I had to do a lot of turning on and off when I was trying to install Koreader. The light being obscured by my thumb bugged me a little to begin with, but it's not that hard to avoid putting a finger over the light. What I found more frustrating is how long it takes after powering off before you can power it back up. Once I get Koreader installed, hopefully I won't need to do so much of that.

Totally a non-issue for me! I've never had any difficulty.

In my opinion, placing the power-button on the backside of the device was a silly idea at all. I can only see disadvantages in that.
The former place on the upper narrow side was much better and more functional.
I like do use a collection of different covers for example the bookbook for ipad-mini and in that case, the button on the backside serves no purpose.

What power light? I hold my thumb on the side edge of the device, when pressing the power button. And that's covered by a cover.

I rather like the location of the button. It's a lot easier to find blindly!

The small button on the top of most recent Kobos, where I had to push like mad to turn the device on/off, was painful for my arthritic fingers. The new big button at the back is very comfortable for me - I push with my right index finger while the thumb is positioned at the top right front angle, which is a comfortable natural position for me and I can do it one-handed (the One is much better balanced than the H2O). I don't understand how Sir Loyne does it.

I would like to see a daytime light and nighttime light mode, where the user can customize the settings.

For example, I use no front light during the day and 3% light during the night.

This can work in conjunction with the existing Natural Light setting.

So, Auto toggle with two hard settings (day and night) based on the ambient conditions.
