Scratch on the Dark by the late British author Basil Copper (ISFDB, Wikipedia, obituary at The Guardian) of Solar Pons Sherlock Holmes pastiche fame, is the 4th novel in his long-running Mike Faraday series of vintage crime mysteries starring the eponymous gritty P.I. in California, this installment taking place in and around Hollywood, as a search for an estranged former movie star wife who has absconded with $$$ puts him on the trail of a lucrative and potentially deadly racket to make even more $$$, free courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press's Venture imprint, who are e-printing it from its 1967 edition originally out from Robert Hale.
