adding books to Calibre from a USB
Hi everyone -Happy New Year!
My OS is Linuxmint 17.2 64bit. I was never able to add books that are on a USB drive to Calibre. When I choose Add, the USB drive is not an option for selection so I always have to put the files on my hd before I'm able to access them for adding. Is this normal for Calibre, how can I add books to Calibre from the USB? Thanks for any help or suggestions. |

Just navigate to the mountpoint for the drive in the add books dialog. Or if you prefer, drag and drop the files from your file manager onto the book list in calibre to add them.

The only options in the nav panel are / and my home folder. Nothing else -which means I'd still have to transfer the files locally from the usb then do the drag and drop. That said, I'd like to take this opportunity to say ![]() |

Your USB disk will be mounted somewhere under /
For example, in /media or /mnt or /run/media and so on. |

I see those, Kovid but they are empty. /media -empty; /mount -empty; /run/mount (not media) empty as well. Anyhow that's fine.
I can do the drag and drop direct from the usb to Calibre as you suggested. Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant before. Thanks for taking the time to help with this. BTW, I have just over 1200 books in Calibre and have made a few virtual libraries. Is there a maximum number of books and virtual libraries Calibre will manage? |

It depends on your computer's performance, people have been known to manage libraries of ~100,000 books in calibre.

I opened my home and sure enough is Lexar. I opened that and all my books are there. Wow! I've been using Mint for more than 1 year and I never thought to look in my home for the usb drive. Thanks for set me looking Kovid. Amazing, just amazing ![]() |

That's just incredible. As a user of Calibre and lover of books, I wish you continued health, strength, motivation and $$$ to continue with the project for a very long time to come.
