A Horse for Kate by Miralee Ferrell is the 1st in her Horses and Friends series tween/YA friendship novels centred around girls who bond and develop close relationships aided by their shared passion for equines, this installment starring the titular eponymous heroine who's had to move to her late grandfather's farm and is having difficulty adjusting to a slower pace of life, free courtesy of Christian publisher David C. Cook.

Apparently, this is being made free to promote the upcoming 2nd-in-series, Silver Spurs, which is slated for release on June 1st and continues the adventures of Kate and her horses and friends.

Currently free, probably just for the next couple of days @ B&N (also UK), Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), iTunes & Google Play (both available to Canadians), and also ChristianBook (DRM-Free ePub available to selected countries), can be added to your library @ BookShout (online reading & in-app download) and may also be free at other venues listed on the publisher's catalogue page.

A horse of her own would be awesome. But Kate figures that might be a long way away, especially since she had to give up riding lessons and move to her late grandfather’s farm. Besides, it would be a lot more fun to have a best friend to ride with.

When Kate discovers a barn on their new farm that’s perfect for a horse, and a dusty bridle too, she starts to think that her dream might come true. Then she meets Tori at school, who is totally the best. So when they discover a thoroughbred that appears to be all alone, could it be the answer to her prayers? Maybe. If she can convince her dad ... and figure out what’s going on with that horse.
