@jesaia714 - If it's a Word DOCX have a look at Sigil's DOCXImport plugin.

And this may be of interest: the calibre ebook library manager has plugin for importing data from Zotero, see Zotero Metadata Importer

The one book I had with many footnotes, I made into an e-book using Word 2000. The html it created was awful, but I was able to clean it up, but the endnotes (Word even then could change footnotes to endnote with a single click) worked beautifully, both going and returning.

@Notjohn - I think the OP is referring to Clarivate's Endnote software.

And you're right, Words ability to transform foot notes into end notes and vice versa is a boon - I can't remember when it wasn't there.

I dont know if iget you all right.
first - yes i am refering to the Entnote software. I use it for 6 years know and i got quite a book colletion.
second - thanks fot the tip with
the calibre ebook library manager has plugin for importing data from Zotero, see Zotero Metadata Importer
but i dont know how that helps since we are talking about sigil and not calibri- but i gues the two work somehow together and i will hve to find out how.
3- do i get that correkt - notjohn that you took a word text and put it in the e book and it took the foodnotes with some need of correktion? sound crasy

and one more thing - there ist a word plug in from Endnote could anybody compile that into a plugin for sigil. that would save me a lot of time. or maby that already exists.

You could try my Word add-in. It has a feature to create an ePUB directly from Word (besides a lot more functions), which you can edit/tune in Sigil if you want. Foot-/endnotes are of course supported. You can choose to have the endnotes at the end of the chapter or at the end of the book.

@jesaia714 - There are EndNote, Zotero and Citavi plugins for MS Word. IMO that's the right place to integrate bibliography/reference managers into your workflow - i.e. during the creation process.

The ePub format is not a very good format for manuscript editing and proofreading (word processing formats and PDF are better), checking references and bibliography entries is an essential part of proofreading.

Normally, it's only after the errors detected during manuscript editing and proofreading are corrected and checked again, that the manuscript is converted to ePub. And that's when ePub editing software such as Sigil is used, to get a book into a 'fit for an epub reader' state.

I think of the ePub editing stage as the e-book equivalent of the Linotype operator getting a book into a 'fit to print' state.
