The Woman of His Dreams by William Mark Simmons (ISFDB, Wikipedia; I like that his official website is named PerSimmons) is the 3rd novel in his The Dreamland Chronicles series of science fantasy virtual reality adventures apparently combining high tech with a medieval setting in an immersive computer-generated gaming environment where users interact by means of “magic” implements, this installment wrapping up the series with a final adventure for the protagonist behind the world as he finds himself bodyswapped (it looks like Venture has a theme going on for this week's freebies, possibly as an homage to the notion of Janus being the two-faced god and therefore hybrid-genre duality stories would suit his month) into a strange new form and setting, hopping through parallels alternates of the created universe as he races against time before an external tragedy threatens to end the game, free courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint, who are e-printing it from its 2002 edition originally out under the variant pseudonym Wm. Mark Simmons from by the sadly defunct Meisha Merlin, who were really good at picking up and continuing favourite old series with new installments until they imploded.
