Yeah, I have the same problem. I updated to Firmware v1.8.0 and now I cannot use the Play Store anymore. Also, my Play Services are out of date and now Google Play Books won't start anymore. So now I cannot read any of my Google Play Books anymore. :-(

I downgraded to v1.7.3rc1, and updated Play Services manually with a download from apkmirror, but that's not a great solution.

Also, the up/downgrade sequences broke my regular book library, it now shows up as empty as well as the home screen which does not show any recently read books anymore. I have tried to rebuild the media library but that did not change anything.

So now I can either stay at v1.7.3 and read my Google Play Books but have a non-functioning regular library, or I can upgrade to v1.8.0 and have the normal library but no Google Play Books. :-(

I had the same issue. To get the Playstore back do the following. Note: your device needs to be rooted.

1. Download the V1.7.5 RC1 update from boox.com under support/firmware. The link to V1.8.0 also has older versions of the firmware.

2. extract the following files from the system\app\ folder of the firmware.
Google-Play-services.apk
GoogleLoginService.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
Google_Play_Store.apk

3. Copy the files to your device and place them in the system\app\ folder using a file explorer with root privileges (ie. ES File Explorer, Root Explorer...)

4. Change each of the files permissions under properties in your file explorer to 6-4-4 (user=r/w, group=r, other=r).

5. Reboot your device.

When you first open Playstore it will likely update in the background and take a few minutes to work correctly. Also, about half of your app storage space will be consumed by the updates (>100MB)

Awesome. My device is not rooted yet. What is the easiest path to rooting the C67ML? I have found a few pointers but what would be your recommendation which method actually works?

Thanks!

Also, I emailed Onyx about this and I received this response:

Thanks for your email. Today we upload the version with google play store already, you can download it to update your device again.

Will now try to re-download the v1.8.0 update and see if it now comes with Google Play.

Actually I can confirm that the v1.8.0 update from Onyx now contains Google Play Store and Play Services. I re-downloaded it, installed through the normal update process, and everything is back to normal.

It is still listed with the same v1.8.0 version number, but the new file is slightly larger.

It's good to hear that they fixed the update. I used the Root Master apk from this thread to root and it worked for me. I don't know the source of the file so use at your own risk.

Upgraded the FW to v1.8.0, and the Google Play Stores is working fine.
