Mobi to Azw3 Conversion - Unable to add/change covers
I have spent considerable time researching this issue on this forum, but no luck.
When I download an eBook from a site like Project Gutenberg for my Kindle Paperwhite, I choose the Kindle format with images. This gives me a Mobi file. If I direct copy this to my Paperwhite, there is no cover. There are images embedded in the book which do show up. If I add the Mobi eBook to Calibre, it automatically converts it to the Azw3 Kindle format, as that is the preferred output format I have Calibre setup for. Some kind of image does appear in the preview as a cover. Still no cover in my Paperwhite after copying it over. If I then edit the Metadata and download a cover, and have that new cover show in the preview window, and direct copy this to my Paperwhite. Still no cover. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any replies! |

Some more information would be helpful.
By cover do you mean the thing at the very beginning when you open a book to read or do you mean the thumbnail images that show up when you are looking at the list of books on your device? Also, which firmware version is your device using? Getting cover thumbnails to appear for sideloaded books on a Kindle is tricky and not always possible depending on a number of factors. |

Copy (using OS) bypasses update metadata on the fly during a Send to Device transfer.

I agree with theducks. For your device the cover thumbnails should work if you transfer books to your kindle using calibre.

Yep, that handled my issue, plus opened my eyes to other issues I was having.
I had been copying eBook files with File Explorer directly from my Windows Calibre documents folder to my Kindle after I had added them to Calibre. Thanks again! |
