Battery experience with firmware v4.1.7729
I'm starting a new thread because the old thread on the battery issue of the Aura One is too long to wade through to find where messages for this firmware start.

I have applied the patches for the last firmware to this one and all seem to work as before.

Ok, it lost 27% in 4 hours and a half, which is much worse than with previous FW.
This is ridiculous. Some folks at Kobo should be put out to grass. This is after restart AFTER update, so no lurking process in the background, not turning on wifi, etc. This is grotesque. Off to eBay it goes, and back to Kindle I go, since, in their infinite wisdom, Kobo killed the only other model that could eventually interest me, the Glo HD. A month and a half for THAT? Someone's got to be kidding me here. What a joke. |

If poor firmware was causing the battery issue, surely everyone, or at least most people with that firmware would be experiencing the same issue?
The same hardware, the same software and the same ebook file formats. I would leaning towards a hardware/ corrupt file issue if my KA1 battery was still draining fast now, which it isn't. |

Is there a way to download the file and put it onto the Kobo reader just like a Kindle, or do we have to wait until someone sniffs the link and then use the patching tools to create the KoboRoot.tgz file?

If it was a hardware issue, it would have shown. And the fact is, with previous FW at least, for days it was working as it should, and suddenly started dropping % on the battery for no good reason. At any rate this thing wasn't ready for prime time, and still isn't. Off it goes. EDIT: I plugged it in to charge like 20 minutes ago, and it jumped from 13% to 69%. This is all over the place. So yeah, it is at least as buggy as before, and probably more. Last edited by Zaroff; 10-12-2016 at 04:23 AM. |

BTW, you cannot do that. You have to install the firmware BEFORE the patches.

I don't mind losing the patch, as it has turned out that I don't need it. Last edited by Katsunami; 10-12-2016 at 04:46 AM. |

As it stands right now, some of the 4.0 patches work with the 4.1 firmware (mostly those that are labeled as being multi firmware), while others do not. Unfortunately, the Font Freedom patch is one of them. It'll take some time for the rest of them to be migrated over. |

Sorry for not explaining myself, as I associate unzip with a zip file and extract/decompress with a tgz file. |

First night of usage with the new firmware. I had the device set to autosync during the night with Wi-Fi on - as I could always do without a problem on my H2O - and there was no drain, so I hope it'll stay that way.
By the way, someone mentioned earlier that they had a drop of 27% within 4.5 hours. What I've noticed with *both* the KA1 and the H2O is that in certain percentage ranges the battery seems to be dropping significantly faster than at other points, which makes me wonder if it's perhaps more of a battery *indicator* issue than an issue with the charge itself. Could be the battery needs more training to give a reliable indication of the amount of charge that is being used. |
