Do you save your router password to Amazon?
Hi guys.
Do you guys give your router password to Amazon? I really don't want to. And I don't see why should I. But if I don't, every time when I connect to the wifi, I have to re-enter the password again, which is a long combination. How do you guys work around this? Or you just don't turn the wifi off? I am now turn the device to airplane mode so the wifi is off and hopefully save some battery power. |

Leaving the device in airplane mode will approximately double the battery life. Personally, I side-load all my content and leave WiFi turned off. The main reason to have it switched on is if you read on more than one device and want to sync the reading position between them.

I also keep the wifi turned off most of the time. But I'm not paranoid about my password and have saved it on my Kindles. I've used Kindles for 5 years and have never had any security problems.

I, too, find this a dubious gain for a huge security loss, and it's totally useless for the wifi router you normally connect to Amazon through (since it needs your wifi router password to connect to Amazon at all), so I turn the checkbox off, but I've only had to teach each Kindle the wifi password once. |

The "password", the access code, that you enter into the Kindle is for the WiFi Access Point component of your router-AP-switch combo device. If it is setup properly, the WiFi access code is different than the actual router component's password. Even if your Kindle sync'd this access code with Amazon, it can't be used to access your router from the internet. They would have to be within WiFi radio range (50-150 feet) in order to access your local network.
If you are really concerned, simply setup a "white list" on your router. List all of the MAC addresses for all of your devices (phones, computers, ereaders, toasters, ...) that connect to the router. Once enabled, "alien" devices can't access your WiFi even if they have your access code. They would have to be very sly and know how to spoof the MAC address of one of your devices. |

I let it save password to cloud, though so far it really hasn't helped much (I had to replace router and do it all over again with new password).
And unless I'm overdue with a library book, or complying with airline guidelines, I leave WiFi on all of the time. I switch devices a lot and want to maximize chance that reading position will get synced, and make frequent use of features that require internet connection (wikipedia, translate, store etc.). |

It's like any other wi-fi device that remembers once it has been there. The only place I know of where I have to keep putting a password in is at my job.

Oh yes, Amazon wants your WiFi password so Amazon can use your WiFi if their net ever goes down.
