Author's Twitter Page
Hello, looking for a way to add author's Twitter page in a new column or at least somewhere.
I was able to do so with adding a picture and a link in the Comments entry, but I don't think that's going to work, because I wouldn't just have to add this to every author with a twitter account but also add it individually to every book of the same author. Is there a way to add a Twitter column like the Author one that leads to wikipedia? A column that would lead to the author's twitter page. This is what I was able to do. |

@Samurai - if you right click on the Author name in the book details sidebar, you will see an option for Manage Authors, in there you'll see an Author Link column, if you put the Authors Twitter url in there, when you click on the author name you'll be on his/her Twitter page.
But where will you put his/her Facebook url or Skype address. That's why I use an Evernote link, an EN note can contain links to whatever you want, Twitter, Facebook, Weibo, Author blog etc, text of obituaries and book reviews; images, youtube writer conference videos; links to tax returns if he/she is Norwegian. Is there a way to create a new column that reacts the same way as the Author's one with a link? Also, the EN link thing would also be the same I think, in the way that I would have to add individually for each book of the same author the link to the author's twitter page. It wouldn't apply to all of his/her books just by adding it once. |

The author link is for the author, whatever it references is available for all his/her books so it only has to be entered once. You can't add columns at the author level, the columns you see in Manage Authors is all there is
The Author link can only reference one thing, so if you put a Twitter url in there you loose the wikiP page etc. An EN Note is a container into which you can put whatever you like. It took me longer to prepare this screen shot than it did to create the note, drop the links into it, and coffee and pasta its link into the Author Link fie;d in Manage Authors ![]() BR |

![]() Wikipedia for Author is one, so save that field in Authors for something not easily derived from the current Author, Title value |

If you don't put anything in Author Link then clicking on an author name in the book details side bar will use the link at the top of Preferences->Look and Feel->Book Details, which by default is set to search Wikipedia with authors name. To make it search Google see ==>> Switch author search from Wikipedia to Google? But, if you put a link into an Author Link, such as a facebook page web address, you override the link in Book Details. The way around this is to put a link to something that can contain multiple links - and put the facebook, Wikipedia, Twitter, Weibo etc links in there. And IMO the simplest way to do that is to use an off-the-shelf product such as Evernote or Onenote. EN and ON Notes can have multiple links/pictures/text/tables etc, and most importantly EN and ON provide the means to access a Note from other applications (such as calibre) via application specific protocols. In practise that's right click a Note, select Copy Note Link, then paste what's in the clipboard into a calibre Author Link field. No plug-ins, add-ons, custom columns etc - vanilla off-the-shelf. And as a bonus you can access your EN Author notes on an Android device by tapping on the Author Name in Calibre Companion. An IOS version of Calibre Companion is on its way. The Authors table has three user accessible columns - Authors, Author Sort and Author Link. In my screen shot (from my Test library) the second item is the Author Sort column which is not normally displayed - this is more typical
You cannot add more columns to the Author data - period. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 10-02-2016 at 05:44 PM. |

You might also consider looking up the author at the ISNI website and adding that link. This way you can find a lot of information about the author, like pseudonyms, Wikipedia pages, websites etc. See for an example the info on Diana Gabaldon. You can add to the information on this site as well.
