Full Justification in iBooks in iOS 10

Just updated my phone and my new iPad mini to iOS 10 and noticed that for some fonts (e.g. my favorite, Athelas), full justification is not enforced anymore (even though it is turned on) for books that have alignment set to left by default.
Has anyone noticed the same thing and what do you think, is this a bug or a feature?

Seems highly unlikely to be anything to do with the fonts. Fonts don't determine justification; the apps that use the fonts do. Which app is it that you're talking about?

The OP seems to be talking about iBooks in iOS 10. I rarely, if ever, use iBooks, but it is possible that iBooks is forcing the use of the publisher's setting of LEFT justification and overriding the user's setting of FULL justification.

Sorry, I overlooked "iBooks" in the thread title. As you say, in most reading apps, hard-coded justification in a book will prevent the user from selecting the justification manually.

Yep, that could have to do with it...
However, when I open certain books with the same font size on the same setting, it still varies according to properties I am not immediately aware of.
I wish that Apple would do more in that regard, e.g. force a certain base font size on all books and then let users decide on an individual style, and then save that individual style for every book individually. With the “computing power” of the iPad, that shouldn’t be a problem. The way it is at the moment is only half-assed...
I know other apps are much better in that department, but I still prefer to use iBooks because it also syncs back to my computers (in addition to my phone) so I get to review notes and highlights from the comfort of my big screen...

Have you looked at Bookari (formerly Mantano)? It can sync reading position, notes and annotations to iCloud and allows you to look at your notes and annotations (although not read books) from a web browser on your PC. Might be worth a look?

The free version is awful. The paid version might be good, but I'm not shelling out 3.99 just to try it.

I would not know if it is a change or not (do not have my iOSrphaned iPad 3 handy), but yes, I can only get left on books if I can set font to 'Original'. I would assume it is just another of Apple's arbitrary 'we know what is best' design decisions. But it seems just as likely to be a regression that nobody noticed.

I am curious if it is a regression from iOS 9, however. That would imply that despite the lack of any observable or announced improvements, that some team is still doing some maintenance somewhere.

But can you read your notes on a PC? That's why the OP likes iBooks.

Did you also use exactly the same font (family) too? In general, different fonts have different font metrics (font properties inherent in the specific font design itself). For example, in iBooks, Athelas takes up more space than Times New Roman, for the same font size.
