Kindle Oasis Lighting

I've read that some on here have noticed issues with the lighting on the Oasis, in that the light cones down the side can be very noticeable and quite uneven. My question is twofold: are they any better overall since the Oasis has been out for a few months, and if not, how long before the issues like this get sorted out? If I wanted to buy one, would it be better to wait until sometime next year for the issues to be ironed out?

Most people only find the shadow cones noticeable when the light level is set to a high level - much brighter than you'd normally use when reading. It can't be "sorted out" - it's just the way the lighting works. I'd suggest getting one and returning it if you find the shadow cones annoying, but only a small proportion of Oasis users seem to find it a problem.

OK. Given that I leave the light around 10-12 it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for your help.

I don't notice the cones unless I turn the light higher than 12 inside or in a darker room. And in a darker room I would not really go above 10, so I don't see it. I know its there as I turned the light all the way up to see when I first got it. But since I never see it, I don't care.

Its like I know I have dustbunnies behind the sofa and probably some other items, but I don't see them.

Lately I have been happy with light at 9-10 at all times. Seems to work for me. I have bad eyes and I am night blind-ish. But if I can see the screen "glow", I know I have the light on too high. Outside it doesn't really matter at all for me as it looks the same if I have it on 0 or on 20. Can't tell a difference. But I read mostly inside so I like a little brighter backround. But not lit, if that makes sense.

That is because in bright sunlight (not in shade) the light of the reader cannot compete with the sun and has no effect. The Voyage will turn the light down to 0 if it gets bright enough - no reason to waste battery. The adaptive light feature works rather well unless you are holding it near the sensor - probably the reason it went missing on the Oasis so it can be flipped from one hand to other without needing 2 sensors.

I ended up turning off the auto light on my Voyage after a while. Sometimes just a slight shift of my body would make the light go up and down, it drove me nuts. This was especially the case at night with a side lamp. Outside it would turn the light up, not down. So I don't miss the feature much on my Oasis.

The automatic light sensor on the Voyage turns the light up until the ambient lighting reaches a certain level, but once it gets brighter than that (eg in direct sunlight) it turns it down to the minimum.
