Do the (touch screens of) Kobo's fail often?
I was recharging my Aura H2O, when I noticed the touch screen was behaving erratically, it suddenly asked if there was water on the screen, while there wasn't. After it had recharged, I connected it to the PC, but the Aura didn't respond when I tried to tap Connect. I turned it off, and on again, but touch still didn't work. Neither did reset (the hole and paperclip way) do the trick. I then reset it 3 times to do a factory reset. It reinitialised, and touch was working at that moment, so tried to configure the Aura. However, after a couple of pages touch didn't respond anymore. Everything else seems to be working, but without touch the Aura isn't much use. Could this be a hardware fault, or is there something I can do to fix this?
I could get the Aura One, I'd love to have an even bigger screen. But, could this happen again? Do the touch screens of Kobo's fail often? Or develop other hardware faults for that matter? Thanks! Last edited by ableeker; 09-18-2016 at 06:34 PM. |

I don't recall any posts about the touch function of a screen failing, either IR or capacitive touch. I am sure it can happen, but I bet it is rare.

It happens, there were some threads about it. I bought a defective Glo where touchscreen no longer works, and haven't found a way to repair it...
It can be hardware issue (failed IR emitter, sensor, or scratches in the optic parts of the case/bezel, or misalignment of any of these parts). It can also be dirt somewhere, use a soft cloth and LCD cleaner fluid all around so there won't be obstructions for the IR beam and hope for the best... https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...80#post3120480 It could also be software but then it should be fixed after a factory reset ... As for rarity, I think broken displays are more common than losing touch functionality. My H2O sometimes has a bit of dust all around and touch still works fine despite it. Canned air blown around the bezel can work as well if the reader is infrared touch and not working properly. That's the only problem I've ever heard of with infrared.
