Firewater by the late British author John Russell Fearn (ISFDB, Wikipedia, Science Fiction Encyclopedia) is his vintage western historical adventure thriller, apparently set in New Mexico, pitting some unscrupulous treasure hunters against the local Pueblo Native American people (Wikipedia) whose territory the gold is located upon, as the tribe's leader seeks to take revenge upon one of them for spreading alcohol among her people even as she fends off an ambitious attempt to take her place from a rival seeking to make use of the outlaws, free courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Pioneering imprint, who are e-printing it from its 1950 edition out from Scion under Fearn's own name, and later reprinted by Robert Hale as part of their Black Horse Western imprint using the pseudonym of Jed McCloud.

Nick Carson, a lone traveller, Pierre Gamont, an unscrupulous half breed, and Slick Hartnell, a ruthless outlaw, all sought an untold fortune in gold.

However, Gamont ignores her laws and sells whiskey to a renegade Indian in return for gold.

When Glorious Smile discovers several of her braves murdering a fellow brother under the influence of firewater, she tracks down Gamont and sentences him to be lashed.

However, things don’t go according to plan.

Nick Carson escapes, sending the tribe on a warpath.

Glorious Smile’s leadership is put to the test, she must not back down.

But Shining Fire is willing to do all that he can to undermine her and take the woman's place as leader.

He will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it means helping the enemy…
