F. Jackson pseudonym.

Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and pretty much everywhere else that Amazon sells worldwide, since this is being done via their KDP Select exclusive-or-else program)

Description
The desert is a dangerous place…

But when desert-wise Don Thorpe is asked by General Colman to undertake a mission of the greatest importance to the Union forces, he does not hesitate to accept.

His mission – find the missing train laden with enough Californian gold to buy arms for the entirety of the beleaguered South.

Don accepts the dangerous mission but, on the way to Fort Gorman, he arrives upon the scene of an Indian attack.

He rescues a beautiful girl and her fiancée from the battle but in aiding their escape, he finds himself taken prisoner by ruthless Comanche Indians.

But this is not Don’s first encounter with Indians.

Confronted with the terrifying torture customs of the Comanches, will Don manage to escape with his life?

Riding through fierce desert storms and encountering enemies on all sides, will he locate the gold train and stop it falling into the wrong hands?

And will he ever set eyes upon that beautiful girl again?

The Captive is a fast-moving tale that will transport you back to the savage lands of the Old West.

Eh, the reviewer got 6 out of 8 letters in the name right. And you do have to expand the Read More in the blurb and scroll down to the end to find out that the author has been dead for some time. Points* for… something vaguely resembling effort?

But seriously, this is why I usually go by the author's reputation and the preview sample, rather than random customer ratings (or in some cases, rantings), when it comes to actually deciding on what books to spend actual money upon.

* Not many, though, maybe a 6/8. If this were a hypothetical paid shill review, I'd recommend that the purchaser demand at least 25% of their money back.

Thanks for the freebie listing. Is it just I, or does anyone else think the book's cover looks like a Marlboro Country ad?

It does remind one of one doesn't it. I remember when they had ads for Marlboro on the back of every issue of TV Guide. I understand the man who posed for the pics died of lung cancer.

RE: TV Guide ads - you have a good memory!
RE: Marlboro Man's death - yes, several Marlboro men died of smoking-related diseases. Very sad.

I think you mean 4 out of 6 letters. So the purchaser needs 33% back.

Though that review was funny.

Sorry couldn't resist correcting you. Since the author is E. C. Tubb.
