IIRC ibooks are DRMed so no they cannot be converted.

eBooks bought from Apple MIGHT be ePub. Some are and some are not.

As to how to remove the DRM, there are ways to do so. But, how to do it requires some specific version of iTunes and some version Requiem.

Or the Mac version of TunesKit IIRC.


Of course not all iBooks ePub's are DRM'd. I've got quite a few freebies that downloaded as DRM-free ePub's in iTunes.

I've never really seen a raw, non-DRM'd iBooks file - but I've seen plenty of EPUBs that look like they were 'made' for iBooks....so - are they really that different?

I thought rumor was iBooks WERE just ePUBs with some Apple-specific things to render some fancy stuff (when EPUB spec was slower to adopt things).

I could be way off. The EPUBs with iBooks stuff in them could just be files ready to be 'imported' into iBooks - which then could do more conversion stuff (like Amazon EPUB to Kindle conversion).

When you add in the iBooks specific stuff, it no longer is an ePub eBook.
