US Bookstores and Kobo

I came across this list of independent book stores in the US that are Kobo affiliated. Not sure if they all carry eReaders or not.

At least one store on that list shut its doors this past spring they carried 2 models initially, the mini and the glo then stopped carrying them. Spring 2015 I thought my 350 was on its last legs; when the Glo HD was announced I called to see if they were going to stock it, they never returned my call.

About 40% of the stores mentioned on that site aren't bookstores and don't carry Kobo hardware.

Pretty much none of them carry Kobo hardware although some will special order it. Most of them are on that list due to basically having an affiliate situation if folks buy Kobo eBooks through the stores link.

Even stores like Greenlight, in Brooklyn, which used to be somewhat big sellers of Kobo's a few years ago have pretty much dropped them all together and only do the book affiliate thing. Politics & Prose in D.C. was another big one, not sure if they still do anything hardware wise or not.

Several years ago I bought my first (and then months later a second backup) Kobo Glo from The Book Cellar. While they said I can buy books through them now, they no longer carry any of the Kobo readers, nor can they order them. A few other places I called didn't carry the readers at all when I was shopping around for them. I preferred buying locally in case there were any problems with the reader. Now I order from Chapters in Canada and with the exchange rates, it turns out cheaper than buying direct from Kobo even though they charge $15 shipping.

So that list has been out there for quite awhile, just not very reliable. You have to call a store to find out if they really do carry the Kobo readers at all, and if so, which ones.
