Help about using a Kindle DXG as PC display
Sorry if my questions are too obvious. I have used the search tool, but I don´t have find an answer.
I have brought an used Kindle DXG (I will receive it within 2 or 3 days). The software version is 2.5.8, serial number B009... I know nothing about linux, only Windows (forgive me...) I want to use the DXG as PC monitor (or MS Word will kill my eyes), using the metod described here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/25958...c_display.html (I hope there is no problem about posting this link) But I have lots of questions: 1. Can I jailbreak a Kindle DXG (B009...) running software version 2.5.8 using the archive "Update_jailbreak_0.13.N_dxg_install.bin" from this forum? Or I have to update the firmware before? 2. Will I brick the Kindle DXG if it has been jailbreaked previously and I try to jailbreak it again? 3. Can I use "Update_usbnetwork_0.57.N_dxg_install.bin" from this forum instead "Kindle -usbnetwork-0.37.N.bin" mentioned in the article? 4. Any advice before I try to make this "project"? Thank you! |

After some attemps, I´m going to answer some of my own questions (if it helps to someone):
1. I have found an old jailbreak version (0.10.N) for my firmware, so I haven´t had to update it. It was in a russian web. If someone needs this old jailbreak version, just ask me for it. 2. I did the jailbreak at my own risk (I didn´t know if my Kindle had the jailbreak or not). I still have a Kindle, not a beautiful 9,7" brick ![]() 3. Yes. At least, it works for me. It worked perfectly in my x32 W10 PC, but I had a problem during the process installing in my x64 W10 PC: it didn´t detect the Kindle while it was using the usbnetwork. Happily, I found this: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...86&postcount=1 After installing the driver, my PC detected perfectly the Kindle. Although the refresh of the eink display is some delayed, it isn´t a problem for me when I use MS Word, so I´m satisfied. |

The slow response has been mentioned a number of times.
I am pretty sure the discussion result was: The DX is doing the best it can, it doesn't have much of a processor, limited ram, and an early (slow) e-ink controller. I don't use the remote display things, so I could easily be wrong about that. - - - - @NiLuJe: Win10, 64bit, needs that driver (at least until MS starts shipping it). Our moderator is away this week, but I will try to remember to ask him to put a comment and/or link in his USBnetwork post and readme file about it. |
