After spending time reading through the forums, and the various threads therein, and after downloading the guides/softwares/etc--including Kubrick--I'm starting to think my Kindle Touch is hopelessly bricked.
Backing up; plugged it in to charge yesterday. Took off the charger, and brought it with me to the mall. Sitting down to eat, noticed it was displaying an ad for a novel. Trying to press the power button, there was no response. Later on, it switched to the "Please ensure your Kindle is registered and connect wirelessly to receive the latest Special Offers." <--there it has stayed since. I've taken the back cover off, and pulled the battery. Subsequent to that I can seemingly get it into download mode, but it won't switch to fastboot, and only show up in Windows as "HID compliant vendor-defined device." Nothing I do seems to change the display in any way, shape, or form. Am I hopelessly bricked here? |

It takes *significant* hardware breakage to kill a Touch (if it is indeed a Touch, double-check the wiki), so, that seems unlikely.
Kubrick (or the manual approach) should be able to breathe life back into it. Which means: details, details, and more details ![]() |

Hold the power button for at least 40 seconds.

Have done. Many times.
Here are the symptoms: Plugged into an Aukey smart charger. Unplugged it to bring with me. Sat it in center console in my car. Put in my back pocket. Got it out when I sat down to lunch in the mall. Intended to do some reading. Kindle didn't respond to button press. Amber light stayed on. Screen frozen on a special offer. Later on, amber light still on, screen displaying "Please ensure...". Subsequently removed back cover, and pulled battery. Put battery back in, charged overnight. Device appears to respond to limited button presses, e.g., amber light goes off if held for 40 seconds. Can apparently get it into download mode, but no further. Screen still stuck. Nothing seems to be working vis-a-vis getting some kind of meaningful response from the device. Diag in MgrTool seems to work, but switching to fastboot doesn't. I've had plugged in over an hour with Kubrick; it's on the screen where it says "Your device is now entering fastboot mode." It's not moved beyond "waiting for device" (as I said) in over an hour. |

MfgTool use implies your host PC is windows. Fastboot only works in windows if you install the USB drivers as instructed in my "simple debricking" thread (i.e. the manual way).
Most people use kubrick, which automates that manual procedure where you needed MfgTool. |

That's just it! I can't even get to place where device manager prompts me to install the fastboot drivers. Exiting Kubrick I'm seeing that it's failing to mount the Kindle device. |

The only thing I can think is that perhaps my Aukey smart charger fried it?

Wait did you say Amber light? Here is the first thing you need to do. Put it on a WALL charger for 72 hours. No less. Do NOT use a computer, car or power pack. The main problem is it is not charged. In 72 hours, come back. Then we will go from there. |

Hi Gandalf239
Did the 72 hour charge resolve things? Have you resolved your issues and if so how? |

Kindle Bricked, Unable to recover
All, it's still bricked.
But I did discover the cause: It seems I inadvertently plugged it in to charge using a factory (fastboot) cable. It didn't like that too much. In any case, after following all the suggestions here, I even went so far as to replace the battery; still nothing. |
