I have read that The Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch has been moved to publication in September 2016. All well and good. Until I went on Amazon, where the book was up for preorder with the cover and everything and is now an untitled book due out in... 2018. Huh? And Gollancz's official blog, in May 2016, announced the move to a September pub date. What is going on? Well, it appears that for some reason, the hardback is due out in 2018, while the Kindle is due out in September. WTF?https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thorn-Ember...sap_bc?ie=UTF8

Those dates on retail sites are typically place-holders tentatively issued by the publishers. They can and do change all of the time.

If Thorn is anything like Lynch's last book, you can expect that date to change many more times before publication.

Best to check Lynch's official website for details on when the book is really going to be published.

Ignore Gollancz, ignore Amazon and wait for Scott to say "It's happening."

I've had it happen that a book was supposed to be out on date x and then it didn't come out. I think one of them was even cancelled if I recall (though I can't recall the title). It is frustrating when that happens. I'm waiting on one now myself. A friend of mine has a story coming out in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book near the end of the year. Hopefully it won't be delayed.

Not being able to find any sites where I can pre-order this title (that's supposedly being released next month sometime) does not inspire much confidence that it will be available very soon. Unless he's going with a UK-only release at first, this time. That would be new, though.

Been wondering what was going on with this also. Been waiting for the hardcover to show up for pre-order on Amazon and saw on my wishlist the date had vanished on the paperback.

I have not been following this recently but if I recall correctly he has submitted the final drafts quite some time ago. And it was upto the publishers to decide when to release.

The series sounds interesting though. I will add it to my list.

Y'all are a bunch of impatient babies. I'm still waiting for David Gerrold to finish book 5 of The War Against The Chtorr. Book 1 came out in 1983, book 4 came out in 1993 with a cliffhanger chapter from book 5. I asked Gerrold in 2015 if that series was ever going to be finished, and he assured me that he had gotten back to it and had made great progress on it. Wikipedia says it was at the beta readers back then, but still no word on it.

There are a couple of authors whom I generally refuse to buy because of abandoned series. He's one because of the series in question. The other is Roland Green, because of the Wandor series (hey, I was spending my lunch money when I was a student for those books). I did buy the Janissary books that he was involved with (It was Pournelle's series) and did read the Great Kings' War, so I guess it's not totally absolute. Of course, it helps that Green is a bit of a pulp writer.

I would like to see The Doors of Stone released before I die.

Still waiting here too - I don't read nearly as much sci-fi as fantasy, but I'd love to see the end of this series some day.

Too bad it has been delayed, but at least it's mostly normal life stuff and nothing depressing / awful.

I'm waiting for two books like a hawk; Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson, and The Winds of Winter, the 6th Game of Thrones book. Apart from these two books, I'm not in a hurry to read many new or unread books. I'm passing my time re reading again and again, the Laura Levine cozy mystery books (The Jaine Austen mystery books).
