Retasking Paperwhite

I have a 10th Gen Kindle Paperwhite reader, and I'd like to re task it to do things like show my calendar, or maybe display the weather or home automation status.

Has anyone reprogrammed (re flashed) the device so it is not a Amazon Kindle anymore but a general purpose display?

I've seen something called Jailbreak, but I think that is not the same thing.

Thanks, Mark.

I don't know if it's possible to edit titles but if so you may want to edit your title to say what your post says. Maybe more people will have an idea of how to help. Good luck.

Only moderators can fix titles, but since I was here I fixed it. Now says "Retasking" instead of "Retaking".

Thank you, WT Sharpe, for fixing the title, yes that was a fat finger. I did go back to change it and thought it took.

A good question. I also thought, that a epaper display would be a good permanent information display. Weather and News would be the first thought. For smarthome users maybe interesting...also E-Mails, Twitter or something.

There is a linux under the hood, but the easiest way is the browser.

The most popular way of achieving this involves using VNC to either attach to a virtual monitor on the host PC or mirror an existing monitor:As far as I'm aware, nobody has created anything that would allow you to plug in a Kindle over USB and use it directly as a monitor, DisplayLink style. If that's your main goal, you would probably be better off buying a Dasung monitor or one of the smaller Waveshare displays with an HDMI input.
