Is the pocketbook 840 running linux?
If yes, is it possible to install custom programs? If yes again, where can I find them?
Is there a "starting guide" for these kind of things for the PB840? I mean where I can find all the sources for programs and customizations? Thanks in advance |

Yes, PocketBook devices run linux. It is a custom OS that uses the inkview library for updating the screen (although some, like koreader, use their own software to write to the screen buffer). You can download the SDK if you want to write applications that use the inkview library. See the developer forum for posts on getting and using the SDK.
PocketBook used to provide the source code to most of their applications many years ago, but they stopped doing that. They do provide the source code for the underlying system programs, as per whatever each license requires. Their modern systems have not been rooted, however they allow a fair bit of customization, and you can accomplish most things without requiring root privileges. You can find third-party applications (and usually their source code, too) scattered throughout this forum. |
