Cool Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo) Across Asia on the Cheap [Vintage Historical Travel Guide]

Across Asia on the Cheap by Tony Wheeler (Wikipedia), co-founder of the popular Lonely Planet franchise, is an e-book facsimile reprint of his seminal first travel book which launched the imprint, free courtesy of travel specialty publisher Lonely Planet, which originally published it in 1973.

This has actually been free for a couple of years as an historical piece to celebrate Lonely Planet's then-40th anniversary (another one you might be interested in is Fodor's 75th anniversary offering: 1936… On the Continent: The Entertaining Travel Annual, which is still free in multiple stores after all these years). It's actually really nifty, showcasing the means and methods of travel to some less well-known areas back in the days when they were considerably less accessible than they are now, and the historical prices and local customs and such. There's also a retrospective introduction by LP founders Tony & Maureen Wheeler.

Currently free @ B&N (also Sainsbury), Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians)

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because it's always nice to get a glimpse into history like this, and even though this is several years old (and has happily stayed free all this time), it's the sort of thing that deserves a feature spotlight.

Enjoy!
