Anyway to connect plugged-in ereader via command

During my major exercise to remove series info from the reader (and just keep it in the title), I end up plugging in the USB cable many times. Is there a way that I can re-connect the reader using a Kobo reader command or a Calibre command (not likely since Calibre doesn't even see the ejected reader) or a windows command?

I figure that a device has a finite lifetime of cable connects and I would like to minimize wherever possible.

Sorry, I can't remember if anyone has done that. But, when I'm doing a lot of connecting and disconnecting, I usually pull the cable from my laptop instead of the device. I don't know if that end will have longer life, but it's a little easier for me.

Good point Mr. David -- I'll try it that way.

One reason I am doing a lot of connecting and disconnecting is that I delete a bunch of books from device using Calibre and I am pretty sure I have to disconnect and reconnect before copying them back. Is that the best way of removing series info from a lot of books?

The delete and add in the same session should be safe. The delete removes everything from the database, the book and the cover image. The add let the device process the book when it is disconnected.

But, if I'm replacing a lot of books, I usually disconnect between the delete and add. If I'm just doing one or two books, I don't bother. I'd say the size of the batch I'll do has been getting bigger.

Not sure if this is helpful as it takes a lot more time than unplugging and re-plugging, but once you have ejected the device you can get it to connect again by powering it off and on. After the boot has completed the device should notice that the USB is plugged in and ask if you want to connect.

Good point GeoffR but I agree that the time it would take is probably too much. I started using David's idea of disconnecting from the window's device and it feels a lot safer (and even quicker).
