CLI rm book_directory vs GUI delete book

Assuming Calibre is not running at the moment, does
Code:
rm -r ~/CalibreLibrary/AuthorDirectory/BookDirectory
cause Calibre any harm, grief, or confusion?

Thanks.

Yes. The database would have table entries for books, authors, series, tags, publishers, comments, formats and possibly custom columns that no longer exist. "Remove" books in the GUI, or use the Calibre CLI tools to do so.

You can also use the library maintenance tools to find and fix issues. But, overall it is better to use calibre to do do things like this.
