I'm Stumped....

So today I came across an incredibly frustrating issue with Collections on my Voyage (latest generation). I have 8 Collections, that I manage directly on the Kindle (not jailbroken). All books on my Kindle are AZW3 format (DRM cleaned the usual way) and my entire library is in my Kindle Cloud via the Send to Kindle for PC app. My workflow for adding books to my Kindle is as follows -

1. Send to device via Calibre.
2. Once books are on Kindle, sort into their respective collections.

I have approximately 900 books on my Kindle, with approximately 1GB of free space remaining.

For one specific collection, however, no matter what I do, it will not allow me to add more than ~ 60 books. This is the first time I've come across this issue before, on any Kindle I've ever owned (K3, Kindle, Kindle PW and Kindle Voyage). Any help pointing m to what I'm doing wrong is greatly appreciated!

Ok...so what happens if you try to add more than 60 books to this collection? Do you get an error? Are you able to have other collections with more than 60 books?

I can tell you that there's definitely not a limit to the number of books that can be added to any collection, as I have several collections with more than 60 books.

1. If I try to add more than 60 books to the collection in question (Mystery - Thriller - Suspense), there's no error message at all. Once I click "Done" at the bottom of the "Add/Remove Items" page, I'm immediately taken back to my list of collections. No books have been added to the collection because the count didn't change. It's as if the Kindle isn't processing the change.

2. I have several collections with more than 60 books in them on my Kindle.

I think the light bulb may have gone off - I have my entire collection in my Kindle Cloud. For this specific collection in question, there are currently 937 items in my Cloud collection. I wonder if it won't add anything more than 62 books to my collection on the device, as this would result in a total count of 1,000 items (All + Downloaded for that collection) and the Kindle doesn't have the ability to show 4 numerical digits???

I've had more than that on my Voyage at one time. It didn't have any problem showing four digits.

Other than rebooting, or removing the catalog and restarting it, I don't know what the problem could be or how you'd solve it.

So the books are downloaded to your device? Or are you talking about the number while in all view. I am a bit confused. Also about how you get the books on the kindle, in case that has something to do with it. You say you use send to kindle, but then you also say you use calibre send to device. Calibre doesn't send the books to the cloud, send to kindle does.

Besides that confusion, I have just over 1000 books in my collection called read. I also have a bunch in one called unread. Those books are of course not actually on the kindle, but most are in the cloud. But I have my view set to ALL so I always see the numbers.

I never thought about it, could it have something to do with the size of the books? I only read fiction books so all my books are about the same and not very large.

I never come across this so I have no clue. But I also have 99.99 percent of my books in my amazon account and I only use send to kindle for things like recipes and the handful of books I bought elsewhere. All my books are in calibre, but I never use its engine to send to my device.

Hi Atunah--Calibre actually CAN send books to your Amazon cloud...I have it do it all the time. I only use the Send to Kindle app for documents I have to read for work (things that don't go into Calibre)

To get Calibre to send to your Kindle cloud, you just add your Kindle's email address to Preferences-->Sharing Books by Email.

Whichever one you are on, try the other one and see what those collections say.

I'm even more stumped after resetting the Voyage back to factory settings. Once that was done, I connected to Calibre and transferred 350 books from my Mysteries genre (using Send To Device). After the transfer, I ejected my Kindle from the computer and tried to add the 350 books to my Mysteries collection on the Kindle. No joy. The device will only allow 115 books to be added to that collection on the device. The remaining 235 books are physically on the Kindle, but there's no way to add them to the Mysteries collection on the Kindle.

So is it only that "Mysteries" collection which is getting stuck? Also, is it only books that are sideloaded over USB that can't be added? What if you tried adding a book that is currently in your Kindle cloud to the Mysteries collection?

So it appears the only way I was able to get the downloaded books into the collection on my Kindle ("Downloaded" area) was to "delete everywhere" the collection from the "All" area. Once I did that I was able to create the collection once again and then add all the books to the collection.

Yes, it's books sideloaded over USB that aren't being added to the collection. I'm probably to "Type A" for my own good, but the reason I don't want to add the books in my Kindle cloud is that they are all .mobi files, and I prefer to read .azw3 formatted books. So everything I sideload via USB (using the Send to Device function in Calibre) is in the .azw3 format.

Ah...ok. I just make sure that the mobi file type is set to "both" in my output preferences in Calibre, so that I get .azw3 files sent to the devices that can handle them, and old style mobi to the ones that can't. (I actually still have a K1 that I read on occasionally) The Kindle cloud accepts the Dual-mobis just fine.
