Is Kindle Oasis overpriced?
I think so. The only reason I bought it is for its ergonomics.

I voted "no" but it depends on whether you think the Voyage is overpriced. If the Voyage is worth $200 then the higher end, more ergonomic Oasis (with its included high quality and rechargeable case) is probably worth $90 more -- especially since it's new tech. (The Voyage costs almost as much as the Oasis if you throw in its Amazon Premium Leather cover -- $85 for cover plus $200 for the Voyage.) Those who don't like its "ergonomic design" would probably disagree. I wouldn't pay $200 for the Voyage or $290 for the Oasis, but I'm cheap and can't justify spending that kind of money for an eReader.

I voted yes. I think the Voyage is worth it's price and that IS the premium kindle. The Oasis may be egronomically better (no idea I haven't held one) but being forced to pay extra for a cover that isn't in any way protective but does hold 3/4 of the battery is a con imo.
One of the best features of the Voyage is the auto adjust light and they took that away from the Oasis. My voyage is in a very cheap case and it works just the same as if I put it in the most expensive case. It's my choice what price I pay for a case. |

I voted YES Cover they Force on the buyer is Useless for protection Also as a Battery Boost! Esp when I paid $3.24 for a 10,000 battery boost the other day. Another thing is you cant Charge the Cover without the Oasis time I am loosing waiting for them both to charge.
Also too many complaints about connections poor light. & No protection for the Oasis its self. Many say buy a cover to put it in... When How you suppose to read it if it inside another cover? There goes the Lightness Amazon brags about! |

Also, going back to the price of cases. I have the basic origami case for the Voyage which cost me £40. I rarely use it and I also think it's not as protective as a normal book style case which is one of the reasons I don't use it. Therefore equating the price of the Voyage plus the most expensive case to me isn't a fair comparison, if it has to be compared with an official Amazon case then use the price of the basic one, as it does exist, not the Vintage leather case at double the price.

I love the Oasis's ergonomics and the way the battery case gives me back a decent battery lifespan, but that doesn't mean I don't think it was a crazy design and way overpriced for what it does. |

I voted yes, purely on the complaints about the screen. Quality control when you are paying for a luxury item should not be an issue.

I voted no. If it was overpriced then the first batch would not have sold out so soon.
Yes, I have seen the complaints. I also know that people are more likely to complain about something than praise it. I figure for every one person that got a "bad" screen, there are at least 2 and probably closer to 3 that are perfectly happy with their Oasis. That is pretty much the count just here at MR. It is priced at what the marketers have determined is the ideal price for a PREMIUM ereader. Now had the OP asked would you buy the Oasis (or other pretty much identical ereader) at this price, the answer would be no. I am cheap and do not need all the bells and whistles. |

I voted yes, I love the voyage and I did pay for it but not full price. And I believe that the voyage is also over priced.
And as for as the first batch saleing out that is just the fact that there are the ones that have to have the newest and thing out, and also all of the ones that buy them to do there reviews and get recognized for doing the reviews. Also I am the type I will never buy anything that I have not seen at least 50 reviews on. |

Given that Amazon are selling every device that they can make, and that the reviews for it on the site are averaging a rating of 4.3 stars out of 5, a sufficient number of people do consider it worth buying, and the average opinion among those buyers is pretty high. That's really all that matters to Amazon, I suspect.

I do not need or desire the new Kindle I have the voyage and it is great for my needs. And I have never been one that had to have the latest and greatest. I drive a 10 year old car that is great to me and for me. Would I like a new care sure, do I need a new car no. The same goes for my Kindle. |

No. I bought the 3G version. When I use it I never feel as if I got suckered into a purchase. And no, I don't have to buy the latest and greatest of anything. It's simply a matter of perceived value.

The price of anything is worth it for anybody willing to pay it. The sales of the Oasis would indicate it is worth it. The Voyage I have was/is great for reading with 50 dollar oragmi case while sitting at a desk. Was always terrible for reading one handed while laying down. The Oasis is great reading one handed. While reading in bed it does not become overbalanced and fall out of my hand.
I don't take my Kindle with me around town, I read when necessary on my phone while waiting at the dr's office. When I travel it is in my luggage or in the door if I am not driving. The case's protective value might be less than the oragami cover but it protects the screen. Whenever I am not reading with the Oasis it is in the case AS WAS MY Voyage. I have been using chargeable devices long enough to have charging capability anywhere I go, including charging bricks. They are not comparable in ease of use to just putting the Kindle in its cover which is what we should all do when not in use. |
