Question books not showing up from Kindle
Bear with me, I am new to this! I got calibre set up, I have the DRM plug in working, but only 7 of my 50 kindle books show up on my Device in Calibre. Any thoughts?
Please KISS me. I am using Calibre at the suggestion of my son... who is out of town right now...

Sounds to me like something might be stuck indexing. In the Kindle search type some nonsense term, such as wjfkfg, and see if it says there are any books indexing.


EDIT: I think I misread your post. Kovid's answer below (kfx) is the likely answer.

Are you saying that files on your kindle are not showing up in calibre or that files you send to the kindle with calibre are not showing up on the kindle?

If it is the former, then your files might be in KFX/azw6 format, in which case the only way to get the original azw3 ebook files is via the Manage my content page on amazon.

Dear AnemicOak and Kovid,
thanks so much but more KISS please!
In more detail, when I click on Device in Calibre, I see only a few of my many books on my Knidle 5. I can load the ones I see, and the DRM stripper works well, but I can't find the other books.
Does it matter whether the books are stored in Kindle memory, the added memory card or the cloud? if so how do I move them where they need to be?
I appreciate your help so much! on the issue of the format, I could not find how to change the format, or even see the format in manage my content on Amazon. Help?

Some books when downloaded directly to the device will be in the new KFX format (to enable enhanced typesetting). The only way I know of to get them in a "regular" format such as AZW3 is to go to Manage Your Content & Devices on the Amazon website (under Your Account) and download them to a computer for loading to a device over USB (Actions--->Download & transfer via USB) or to download them using Kindle for PC (or Kindle for Mac).

This option isn't going to be useful for any books that have DRM since you have a Fire device. You will need Kindle for PC to access those books.

Thanks again. I have Kindle for PC, and all of my books are there. Is there a way I can get them into Calibre so I can strip the DRM?
We shall overcome. Someday.
Or, will there be a KFX reader in Calibre anytime soon?

IMO Kindle for PC to Calibre is a better workflow than from a device anyway.


Download the books into Kindle for PC.

Locate the book files in "Documents/My Kindle Content" (book files will generally be .azw).

Drag books/add into Calibre (letting your plug-in do its magic).

My flow, exactly

View the book in the Kindle Viewer JUST before you go to import.
Have the file manger set to sort on Date_Modified. That books base (they use leters and digits, not human names) file name will be at the top
