Where exactly is Kobo with its Readers?
I have three, two of which are defective and cannot be repaired (here in Peru). These were purchased about 2 years ago.
The one good one - a Kobo Glo, which is one of the older units too, by the way - keeps on ticking and works perfectly. However, it's been superseded by newer and better screens from Amazon and from a few other places, including Kobo. I'm thinking of buying a newer Kobo (perhaps another Glo?), but with all the false hype about new units appearing on Mother's Day (?) and they didn't, I'm curious to know where exactly is Kobo regarding its Readers? Should I wait until 2017? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks. |

None of us know. Until Kobo announces something your guess is as good as mine. We can at times guess something is coming by looking through the firmware for new device codenames but we've no had a new release of f/w for some time either.

The other indicator of new Kobo model is Amazon selling new reader with higher resolution, bigger screen faster page turns or some other feature and Kobo also has something new maybe a little later. Kobo and other brand name readers are all dependant on same supply chain.

I think you'd be very happy with either the Aura H2O or Glo HD.
I own a Glo HD and it's a little tiny thing but that Carta screen and 300 ppi makes all the difference. I'm all about screen quality and contrast. Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk |

Not that I'd be buying it (I have no reason to upgrade my H2O, as I find it pretty much ideal for my needs) but I'd love to see Kobo come out with a new e-reader using the I.MX 7 Dual. I think it'd be a genuine step forward, unlike the latest Kindle which (although a very interesting design) is still more of the same.

I'm hoping the new 6" will be waterproof like the H2O. I have no interest in the 7.8" size, I already have a 6.8" reader, which I love, but never take out of the house, I don't need another one to never take out!

Well, if you have a H2O, you don't /need/ another one, that's a given.
Before I got the H2O, I was very interested in Pocketbook 8" Inkpad device, in the end I only went with the H2O because the Inkpad got very mixed reviews (and H2O got outstanding ones). If the display is as good (or even better than) the H2O I think an even larger device made by Kobo will be very popular, too. |

As for me, if Kobo does release a 7.8" eInk device, it will instantly replace my H2O. 6.8" is too large to be very portable and too small to read pdfs in portrait without reflowing (which in usable in 1 in 10 pdfs if that).

I had the precursor to the H2O, until it died. Yes, the extra resolution certainly made a difference and one that I very much enjoyed. I also liked the slightly larger size. However, I'm thinking that the line will be revamped soon - perhaps next Mother's Day. ![]() |
