After Windows 10 upDATE Kobo Glo HD not detected
I emphasized upDATE because this wasn't an upgrade to Win10, I've had Win10 and had no problems but the other day I woke up to find my computer had rebooted overnight with a Win10 update. Since this update (which is, I think, Windows 10 Home, Version 1607, OS build 14393.10) my kobo is not detected properly. When I plug it in the computer detects that an ereader has been plugged in, but I can't access the kobo in Windows Explorer, Kobo Desktop OR Calibre. I've tried rebooting both the computer and the Kobo and that hasn't done anything.
I doubt it's a Calibre issue, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any fixes. Below is the debug device detection info: calibre 2.63 [64bit] embedded-python: True is64bit: True Windows-8-6.2.9200 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '8', '6.2.9200') Python 2.7.9 Windows: ('8', '6.2.9200', '', 'Multiprocessor Free') Successfully initialized third party plugins: Count Pages (1, 6, 9) && FanFicFare (2, 3, 5) && Generate Cover (1, 5, 21) && EpubMerge (2, 0, 12) USB devices on system: (USBDevice(vendor_id=None product_id=None bcd=None devid=usb\root_hub30&vid1022&pid7914&rev0020 devinst=1), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x5c8 product_id=0x379 bcd=0x103 devid=usb\vid_05c8&pid_0379&rev_0103 devinst=2), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x438 product_id=0x7900 bcd=0x18 devid=usb\vid_0438&pid_7900&rev_0018 devinst=3), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x46d product_id=0xc52f bcd=0x3000 devid=usb\vid_046d&pid_c52f&rev_3000 devinst=4), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x2237 product_id=0x4223 bcd=0x110 devid=usb\vid_2237&pid_4223&rev_0110 devinst=10), USBDevice(vendor_id=None product_id=None bcd=None devid=usb\root_hub20&vid1022&pid7908&rev0049 devinst=5), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x46d product_id=0xc52f bcd=0x3000 devid=usb\vid_046d&pid_c52f&rev_3000&mi_00 devinst=6), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x46d product_id=0xc52f bcd=0x3000 devid=usb\vid_046d&pid_c52f&rev_3000&mi_01 devinst=7), USBDevice(vendor_id=0xa5c product_id=0x216d bcd=0x112 devid=usb\vid_0a5c&pid_216d&rev_0112 devinst=8), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x5c8 product_id=0x379 bcd=0x103 devid=usb\vid_05c8&pid_0379&rev_0103&mi_00 devinst=9)) No disabled plugins Looking for devices of type: MTP_DEVICE List of WPD PNP ids: [u'\\\\?\\swd#wpdbusenum#_??_usbstor#disk&ven_kobo& prod_ereader-3.19.576&rev_0110#n4375a4904497&0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}'] No suitable MTP devices found Looking for devices of type: SMART_DEVICE_APP All IP addresses {'{8DDD7A1C-04F5-4A07-A83C-112460CBDD92}': [{'addr': '169.254.190.140'}], '{A2D53625-595C-11E6-BD70-806E6F6E6963}': [{'broadcast': '127.255.255.255', 'netmask': '255.0.0.0', 'addr': '127.0.0.1'}], '{5D0D3504-9E8E-4413-8A94-9A90F9342DBF}': [{'broadcast': '192.168.0.255', 'netmask': '255.255.255.0', 'addr': '192.168.0.100'}], '{B5B8B144-13D4-4D9D-90EB-A97C444CF99A}': [{'addr': '169.254.224.230'}]} No device is connected Looking for devices... Yes, that is the problem. It detects the device as an external drive, but won't let me access it at all.

The windows 10 update and Kobo's dont play well togeter, you will have to wait for a firmware update from kobo.

There is a discussion on this the Kobo forum. And yes, we have to wait for Kobo to do something in the firmware, or MS to fix it

Either way, make sure you do a backup of your Kobo's internal storage on a working system so you can restore it after the creation/format process. |

I have all the books in calibre, so that part isn't a problem. The problem is that I have like 1200 books on my kobo, and I'm part way through a ridiculous amount of them (probably around 100). If I use the solution given in the other thread I won't know which books to re-upload to my kobo, and I'll lose all the info on where I've read to in those books.

A Linux 'Live CD/DVD' might work.
I have rescued more than 1 corrupted (malware, incl.) Windows system using a Linux CD. Try Mint Cinnamon, it has clean menus, like early Windows... And you can write To your HD All without installing Linux |

I am also having the issue with the W10 "anniversary update" . Win 10 can access the SD card in the Kobo Aura H20, but not the reader itself. (It appears as a drive but I can't access the drive.) Calibre also fails to recognize the device since the update. I guess Kovid is right--we'll have to wait for a firmware update from Kobo.

There is a report from an insider on microsoft.com, that Windows Build 14901 will resolve this issue (the anniversary update is build 14393.10). After installing the new build (from insider fastring) he could connect und sync his Kobo Glo HD. I will check this out after I got this build too.
