migration from sony store to kobo
This is a bit of a Hail Mary and it is my fault I didn't deal with it a couple years ago, but here goes. Back when Sony closed their ebook store and migrated it to Kobo, my books did not transfer. I didn't follow up on the issue because I had them on my computer and let it drop. However, the recent settlement with Apple got me to thinking that I might be missing out on a refund, plus there is always the chance my computer could croak and I might need to download them again. I contacted Kobo support but they said it is too late and even though I could provide copies of my email receipts from the Sony store, that they couldn't add these books to my online Kobo library. I use Calibre, so I have had no problem getting the books onto my H2O. So my question to the group, is there a way to get Kobo to add these books to my online library or to potentially get an additional credit for the Apple settlement? I purchased several hundred books from Sony.
Thanks. |

I got a check in the mail from the Apple settlement, as well as a Kobo credit. I'm figuring the check was probably from my Sony purchases, as that's where I purchased the bulk of my books before Sony closed the store.
I also had purchases from other defunct stores (Books on Board, FictionWise), so who knows - but keep a lookout at your mailbox. |

If you didn't follow what you needed to when you needed to do it Kobo has absolutely zero obligation or responsibility to assist you in getting the books you bought from Sony onto their system.
I'm afraid you're S.O.L. on this one. And if there are no books on their system as showing you've bought them, you also stand zero chance of getting the pittance offered as a settlement from Apple. Sorry but you did this to yourself as you have acknowledged. Make multiple backup copies of your books so you hopefully never lose them. |

You wouldn't get a credit from Kobo for eligible transferred Sony books. Sony "credits" are being issued as a check just like they were for the first round of things in 2014. Hopefully you're still at the same address Sony had on file for you when they had a store or you updated your info with the settlement administrators so you get your check if you had eligible books.
Eligible books are those from and purchased between April 1, 2010 and May 21, 2012 published by Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Penguin or Macmillan. https://ebooklawsuits.com 866-686-9333 info@EbookLawsuits.com As to getting Kobo to transfer your Sony books at this late date I'd guess chances are little to none. |

Given that your books should have moved from Sony to Kobo, you most likely won't get a check from Sony.

Actually a check came this week direct from Apple E-books Antitrust Litigation for my Sony purchased ebooks. Now I have $133 to spend on some more books!

My check was from Apple as well. It was almost enough money to cover the cost of printing and mailing the check itself.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. Kobo doesn't handle settlement credits for the stores they've absorbed. They're all handled by the settlement processors.
