Import/Export feature removing itself from Calibre 2.59.0

Hi there,
My old laptop was dying so I had to buy a new one. I installed Calibre 2.59.0. I looked up instructions on how to move my Calibre data from my old laptop to my new one (http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....ter-to-another) and proceeded. But every time I open up Calibre 2.59.0 on my new laptop, it only briefly shows the "Export/Import All Calibre Data" under Calibre Library button, while the heart is flashing. If I click on it to import data, it tells me it can't do that while a job is running. Then there's a flash, and the items along the top menu bar move position, including the Calibre Library button, and then when I click on the Calibre Library button, it no longer shows me the Export/Import option. It's driving me nuts. I would appreciate any help.

Update: So I kept on trying, and I finally got it to start importing before the menu switched over. But then, when it looked close to finishing the import, it gave me an error message: Failed to Import Data (showing 50 percent imported)

with the details:

calibre, version 2.59.0
ERROR: Failed: Failed to import data. Click "Show Details" for more information.

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\dialogs\exim.py", line 137, in run_action
File "site-packages\calibre\utils\exim.py", line 354, in import_data
WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied

I've managed to do this twice now, deleting what was there and trying again, and each time the same thing happens.... (on a brand new laptop, Windows 10, 64 bit)

You do not have any device connected, correct?

If you did, it would run a device-related job automatically. Then, the GUI toolbar would change automatically to the one configured for when a device is connected.

(slapping forehead) Thank you! I didn't think of that. Yes, I had my Kindle plugged in.

So, I disconnected my Kindle, deleted the library that didn't import correctly, and then imported again.

And I got the same problem as before (in my update/2nd post)

At about 99% of the way into the import, and then it flashes 50% of the total, it says: Failed to Import data

and details:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\dialogs\exim.py", line 137, in run_action
File "site-packages\calibre\utils\exim.py", line 354, in import_data

Access denied can be the Source of the import , not just the destination (new Laptop)

Does the backup media (where you saved the export) check out?

That's a permissions error in the config directory. You likely have some incorrect permissions in the appdata folder on your new computer. You can set the environment variable CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY to point elsewhere as described here: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/cust...ment-variables

or find and correct the incorrect permissions.
