Smile Very Happy With My Glo HD Purchase

I ordered a Glo HD to replace my beloved Nook Simple Touch Glowlight which I stupidly broke cramming it into a rucksack for a camping trip.

Took a chance and ordered it from Ebay Japan to Ireland for $75 USD brand new, didnt get caught for customs so a bit of a bargain there, ordered last Saturday afternoon and it arrived at 7am this morning.

Had it set up in minutes out of the box, didnt like the look of the Kobo software so just went back to Calibre which Ive been using for years, sent over about 600 EPUBs, didnt bother converting to KEPUB as I found the page turning to be instant and didnt think it was worth bothering, plus I like to keep my collection in EPUB format for reading on my phone at work sometimes aswell.

I just dont like Kindles for some reason and the Glo HD sounded like the best current alternative reader but I must admit I was a bit nervous reading all the niggles on here and in various other reviews around the net especially when dealing with earlier firmwares while waiting for it to arrive. Thankfully an hour I spent reading The City of Mirrors this evening and general playing around with it put any worries to bed, had zero trouble figuring out where everything is and configuring it just the way I like it without having to consult any website.

Things I love:

-Blinding fast compared to what Im used to and the screen is super sharp and clear, went straight to Bookerly.

-The cover of the book as a screensaver so you actually remember what you're reading at the minute and the authors name.

-Long press on a book in the library to read the blurb and a few reviews, badly missed this on the Nook.

-The light is a thing of beauty along with sliding your thumb up and down the edge to adjust it, its pretty much perfect, the Nook was too harsh on the eyes at any level, this is the softest screen light Ive ever seen and can be used in pitch black, its perfectly smooth and creamy yellow/white aswell, you have to tilt the device at an unreadable angle to see the line of LEDs.

Things Im not a fan of:

-Maybe a bit flimsy/small, also a bit plasticky but all the modern readers seem to suffer from this these days. Hopefully a nice case will sort this.

-The top button is irritating, would have preferred a bit of a click to it but at least you just have to press it once then forget about it.

So overall couldn't be happier, just need to test the battery life now but seems okay so far, down to 94% right now after playing with it all evening including testing the browser. Seems like the perfect no-nonsense pocket library which is all I want in a reader, the screen and light and page turn speed are all I really care about and I have zero complaints there

Happy reading! And yes, definitely invest in a good case.
