Any Ways to Catalogue Books Without So Much Typing?

I am trying to catalogue books, web sites, etc., and add ratings, tags, etc.

I have severe rsi. I need to avoid some of the typing to avoid worsening my rsi.

I am looking for ergonomic solutions, but can't use the standard advice and haven't found my own solutions yet. I haven't been able to use Dragon for writing, so I don't expect to be able to use it for data entry. I use break-timing software.

@MarjaE - do you have the data in some other digital form - text files, spreadsheets (CSV files) - if so you might be able to make use of the Import List plugin. Even if not, perhaps you would find it easier to enter the data into a spreadsheet and import via Import List.

Whilst I don't have RSI as such, I do have difficulties using a mouse due to injured hands. I enter all my metadata in the book list, rather than the single book metadata editor. I have created various layouts (which columns and what order) via the View Manager plugin for different libraries (books, journals, comics etc) and different publication types.

I have some of the data in a LibreOffice spreadsheet, but I'd need to rework a lot of it. I have some on paper.

Once you have the data massaged,
Look at the Add from List PI (you don't really need to wait , to read up on the features. This PI offers a LOT of ways to add data)

Add from list what? If I try to look up "pi" in the help or the manual, I get mathematical references, probably to the number denoted by the letter.

I just tried "Import List."

... It's put a pin where it's found matches. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have overwritten the matches. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have imported the non-matches.

P.S. Was able to select all the non-matches, and use one of the buttons to import them. Now going through removing the matches it didn't recognize.

Import List can create empty books

Quote:
This wizard-based plugin allows you to match existing or create empty books in calibre based on lists of books from external sources.
I used it when I added my real books. I think this is how I did it: In Step2 - Match list of Books against your library, select Unmatched (radio button), select the books (they will be red text) and click the Add Books button on the right, viz

Name:	Clipboard01.jpg
Views:	134
Size:	63.2 KB
ID:	149198

I've never used Import List to update existing books metadata. Until recently I used it to create Reading Lists based on content search results, now I use Drop Search Results.
