Any Ways to Catalogue Books Without So Much Typing?
I am trying to catalogue books, web sites, etc., and add ratings, tags, etc.
I have severe rsi. I need to avoid some of the typing to avoid worsening my rsi. I am looking for ergonomic solutions, but can't use the standard advice and haven't found my own solutions yet. I haven't been able to use Dragon for writing, so I don't expect to be able to use it for data entry. I use break-timing software. Last edited by MarjaE; 06-03-2016 at 02:14 PM. |

@MarjaE - do you have the data in some other digital form - text files, spreadsheets (CSV files) - if so you might be able to make use of the Import List plugin. Even if not, perhaps you would find it easier to enter the data into a spreadsheet and import via Import List.
Whilst I don't have RSI as such, I do have difficulties using a mouse due to injured hands. I enter all my metadata in the book list, rather than the single book metadata editor. I have created various layouts (which columns and what order) via the View Manager plugin for different libraries (books, journals, comics etc) and different publication types. BR |

I have some of the data in a LibreOffice spreadsheet, but I'd need to rework a lot of it. I have some on paper.

Add from list what? If I try to look up "pi" in the help or the manual, I get mathematical references, probably to the number denoted by the letter.
I just tried "Import List." ... It's put a pin where it's found matches. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have overwritten the matches. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have imported the non-matches. P.S. Was able to select all the non-matches, and use one of the buttons to import them. Now going through removing the matches it didn't recognize. Last edited by MarjaE; 06-04-2016 at 01:10 PM. |

I've never used Import List to update existing books metadata. Until recently I used it to create Reading Lists based on content search results, now I use Drop Search Results. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 06-04-2016 at 06:43 PM. |
