Kindle 3G keyboard locked

I have bought a couple of motherboards for an old Kindle and both are registered to Kindle and I cannot unlock them. I am using Windows 10 and cannot see how to back books up to my hard drive and then transfer onto the ereader via USB, only route I can imagine as the ereader cannot be recognized by Amazon because they deregister these motherboards. I know, I know I should just buy a new ereader but I like the keyboard version even if the micro USB breaks !! any help muchly appreciated

Can you explain what you mean when you say "both are registered to Kindle and I cannot unlock them"? Do you mean that passcode protection has been enabled on them? If that is the issue, type "resetmykindle" into the passcode field. This will do a "factory reset" of the device.

Sorry, my terminology incorrect. When a Kindle is registered to Amazon then lost or stolen and the person who has originally registered that e reader informs Amazon of the loss. Amazon then locks that item and it cannot be registered to anyone else. My original e reader suffered the common micro USB port failure. I came across a firm selling motherboards, bought a few and can transfer from Kindle PC app using a combination of Windows XP and Calibre. Cannot do the same on a Windows 10 PC.

They are blacklisted. I'm afraid that our site policy prevents us from giving any assistance whatsoever with blacklisted devices.

I suggest that you contact the company you bought these from and request a refund. No legitimate company should be selling blacklisted motherboards.

Hmmm, the company is trading openly on several selling sites including Amazon. I will just have to write this one off to experience. Thanks for confirming.

Did they tell you that they were blacklisted at the time that you bought them?

No, I thought I was buying legitimate spares from old readers which case or screen damage. I only found out they were blacklisted when trying to reregister them. I spoke to Amazon, explained the situation and was flabbergasted to hear of this blacklisting.

I've bought several motherboards and screens for Kindle 3, and one motherboard for Kindle DX here:

All have been great.

Thanks very much, I have had a quick look at that site and it looks to be very good. I'll give them a try and hopefully end up with a Kindle I can call my own again. Cheers muchly
