Splitting Epubs?
I know I did this once before. I just don't know how, I think it involved another app, but I can't find the right app.
I have a very long Epub file, too long for me ebook reader to handle. I don't know if it's a size issue or length issue. It has chapter titles included, but doesn't have any chapter breaks, so I can't use EpubSplit. I need to be able to split it into multiple files. My current idea is to (a) duplicate the file and (b) remove everything extra from each section, so the first copy retains chapters 1-50, the second retains chapters 51-100, etc. I can't figure out how to duplicate the file in Calibre. I *can* do this fairly easily by exporting from Calibre and duplicating in the OS X finder. I can't figure out how to delete the redundant sections at all. I know I did this before, but I don't know how. Some Appls such as the Calibre Editor and Textwrangler show line numbers; I would need to remove lines 14275 through 53483 from the first part, etc. I don't know how to select and delete long sections of text. I can't scroll down, there's too much. Any idea how to go about doing that? |

![]() open the book in the editor: File: Save a Copy ( ![]() (you will add it to the Library later , being CAREFUL to not trip duplicates. ![]() Now To delete section, just select them in the Files Browser on the Left: right-click Delete To Split: View in the Preview pane: Use the folded page (paper air plane like) icon and click when the green line is AT the split point |

If you convert from ePub to ePub, Calibre will split the files up for you automatically. It will split at each page break (and can insert page breaks before each chapter if they are missing), or if the file is above a set size.
See: Preferences > Output Options > EPUB Output Preferences > Common Options > Structure Detection |

How are the chapter titles marked?
If tagged with <hx> you can use the editor's split at multiple locations to break it up into chapter files. There are some other splitting options, but I'm sure how they work I had to use the editor to merge a lot of arbitrarily split files into one, and then use the split at multiple locations to break the single very large file into chapter files < 260K warning Last edited by phossler; 05-21-2016 at 09:47 AM. |

Marked
Title Chapter #

I didn't realize converting Epub to Epub was an option. I think the split option with the green line is my best option here. |
