Buying Nook in UK
I have the opportunity to but a Nook - either new or second hand - to replace one that has stopped working. Given that B&N have withdrawn their support from the UK would I be able to register and use it?

Hi, MichaelH,
It is possible to skip the "required" step of setting up a Barnes & Noble account before a Nook Simple Touch will function. Using the method described below will bypass the B&N registration; it is quick, easy and no hacking is required. I have an older Nook ST (purchased in 2011) which I was using infrequently, so I decided to get it ready as a giveaway for one of our neighbors. Since I wasn't sure whether he had a credit card, I thought it would be easiest to try Terence's method and avoid B&N registration. Everything worked perfectly, and afterwards I used Calibre to load some sci-fi books on the Nook. I'm not sure if you would want to try this, but I'll mention it, so that you're aware it's an option: https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2013/05/gui...ount-pictures/ Eden, Terence. "Guide to Using the Nook STR / Glow Without a B&N Account (Pictures!)." 12 May 2013. IMHO, you wouldn't lose out on anything by being unable to purchase eBooks from B&N. I stopped buying from B&N a while back, when they changed the DRM scheme on their books, but I still enjoy reading on my Nook Glowlight. HTH and Good luck with your decision. ![]() |

Seems like you will have to try and bypass the registration like kalwisti suggests, or possibly use a VPN and set up a US Nook account. See the post about Nook's in the UK in the Digital Reader blog:

Before you pull the trigger on the purchase, make sure of which Nook you're getting. The process to skip registration wont work with the last two eink Nooks as they both lack physical page turn buttons. There is likely a way to skip it with them still, but you'd need to know how to get to the developer menu.
