Technogeek needs help.
I have huge problems with my Kobo Touch:
a) unable to sync since Feb 2016. b) Last 5 books I purchased weren't downloaded to my Touch because I'm told my device is full. c) Because of b) I removed quite a few books from my ereader but I'm still told it's full. d) Suddenly whilst trying to sync yet again all of my books removed themselves from my ereader and are now apparently on "the cloud". e) I now have no access to any of my books as my library on Touch is empty, although they show on my desktop library but minus the blue symbol against each one (which would depict that they're in my ereader library). Thus there seems to be a major problem with my Touch ereader and (I feel) a major problem with my Kobo desktop, which I feel has corrupted itself. PLEASE HELP soonest, as Kobo seems disinclined to ![]() |

My guess from this is that while the device was full, something happened to either corrupt the database, or get it out of sync with what is actually on the device. It is possible that has fixed itself, and that tapping a book on the device will download it using WiFi. Or trigger it to be downloaded the next time you connect to the computer and run the desktop application.
You could just do this and check if the books are downloaded correctly. But, I think I would do a little preventative maintenance. I would suggest that you sign out of the Kobo account on the device and then sign back in. What this will do is clear all the downloaded books, remove their covers from the device and generate a new database. Then it will download the details of the books and actually download the books for five of them. I you do the setup using the desktop application all books will be downloaded to the device until it gets nearly full. But, you can skip this and choose which books you want to send to the device. If you are worried about the state of the library in the desktop, you can also rebuild that by signing out of your Kobo account on it. If I was doing this, I would backup the directory with the library in it first. The directory is different for Windows and Mac and I can't remember exactly where it is for either at the moment, and I can't check. If the above doesn't work, there is the more drastic step of doing a factory reset. This will completely wipe the device back to the out of factory state. Then you do the setup using either WiFi or the desktop application. |

Thank you for your detailed reply. What I omitted to mention was that my device isn't actually full, according to my desktop I still have 298mb left. And that was before I removed quite a few books from my reader. But I will certainly give your suggestions a go and let you know how I get on.

As is beauty, "full" is in the eye of the beholder. The Kobo firmware tries to reserve some space to make sure there is room to rewrite the database, generate covers and other things. Hence, it will report is full while there is still space available. From memory, this is somewhere in the 50MB-100MB range. But, It is definitely less than 298MB. Obviously something else was going on, but I think it is to late to find out. If I had had it in my hands when this happened, I might be able to tell what happened, but I think it's to late now.
