Tags out of order

I won't be insulted if anyone tells me to get over it and deal, I promise, because I do realize I'm being (EXTREMELY!) nitpicky here, but since it has bugged me for a while, I figured I'd go ahead and ask/point it out, and then we're done with it.

If I add a tag to multiple books using Bulk Edit -- let's say "Annual" to be really obvious about it -- it gets added to the end of the list of tags, rather than at the beginning (or in alphabetical order), in the tag field.

Any way to have it automatically be in alphabetical order, like it is if I add the tag individually? To make it alphabetical now, I have to open each book's edit metadata, open the Tag Editor, close it up again with no change, and it is now in order.

Under the list of Tags on the left portion of the screen there is a small drop-down menu "Alter Tag Browser". One option is "Sort by name".

However, my tags automatically alphabetize when I do a Bulk Edit, so there might be an option or tweak somewhere. Unfortunately, I did all the tweaking years ago and no longer recall what I did!

Yeah, it's already sort by name. I **think** I've gone through all options and tweaks, but past experience says it's entirely possible I've overlooked something glaringly obvious.

I get the same - if I add a tag AAAA to a bunch of books in bulk, then in Single the AAAA is at the end (OK in book list, book details sidebar), same if I append AAAA to a book's tags via F2 in the book list.

Maybe Bulk Edit could have an option for sorting tags.

Meanwhile, if you tap Shift+F2 in a Tags cell in the booklist then the Edit Tags dialogue should pop up and you can hit enter to save them sorted. It's still one-at-time, but less 'work' (Shift+F2, Enter, Down Arrow) than doing the same via single metadata dialogue.

If you're inclined, you could automate that keystroke sequence to a single hotkey or mouse click with something like Automator on Mac or one of these in Windows ==> list of macro recorders. Still not the greatest - but a bit better.

When you said "then in Single the AAAA is at the end" do you mean in the non-bulk (individual) Edit Metadata screen?

Yes, that does happen to me also. However, everything is fine in the Book List, Book Details sidebar, and the Tags List in the tag browser. Until you mentioned it, I hadn't even noticed it! Yes, I'll agree with the Extremely nitpicky!!

Actually, since I don't really use keyboard shortcuts, I just have to click twice in the tags cell (not double-click, but click twice), then I can just click twice in the next one, which closes the first, etc. Even quicker...
