Hallo,
I noticed something strange while comparing libraries. I have a main lib with all my books and a temp one to clean-up new books. When I compare books in that lib with the main lib it sometimes does not find duplicates. When I copy the book concerned to the temp lib and do a compare books within the temp lib it finds the duplicate one. When I copy the new book from the temp lib to the main lib I get the message that the book is a duplicate! Is my main lib in some way a little bit corrupt? Please help! ![]() Last edited by fvdham; 03-20-2016 at 08:25 AM. |

How do you do the 'compare libraries'? I use a similar process using the Find Duplicates plugin->Find library duplicates feature BR |

@BetterRed - I'am using the Find Duplicates plugin and I did check all my libs with the Library Maintenance tool . Nothing was wrong.
Is there an option to rebuild the library? (over 20.000 books) Fred |

@fvdham - if the check library didn't report any errors I'm not sure what good rebuilding it will do
Can you post screen shots of the settings you use in Find Duplicates->Library Duplicates and Preferences->Add Books If you want to rebuild the database then I suggest you backup your library first, even though you think it is 'dodgy' its the best you have - right? The Library Maintenance->Restore database feature will rebuild the database from those metadata.opf files you have no doubt noticed in the book folders ![]() Could take a while, you might want to let it run overnight. I have no idee what happened, but the problem is gone. I did not change any settings or whatsoever. Maybe it has to do with my SSD drive? I think I had this problem a few times after I installed a SSD .
Anyway thanks for your help Fred |

@fvdham - good oh, thanks for letting us know.
Calibre is a primarily database driven, the 'working' database is an in-memory version, the on-disk database only exists to persist changes, and the author/book folders only come into play when you want to do something with a format or cover image file. So... you might want to consider moving the libraries off the SSD and onto a spinning drive, the performance hit shouldn't be much. BR |

I will try it when the problem reappears. I did not know about the 'working' database is being loaded into memory. I thought it was working directly on the hard drive.
Thanks for your reply. Everything is still working ok. Fred |
