I listen at normal speed, but to each his own!

I don't even want to try it.

I sometimes listen at 1.5x, but if I go faster it's too cartoonish. Right now I'm listening to my current audiobook at 1.3x. I keep it at 1.0x when I really like the narrator's voice and pacing.

There's no way I'd be able to comprehend what someone was saying at the speeds mentioned! However, it's rare I listen at a normal speed. It's always slightly faster.

If I like the reader's voice or particularly enjoy the writing, I listen at normal speed; otherwise, I increase it a bit to 1.2 or so. If I find myself frustrated with a book and just hoping to get through it, I might increase it up to 1.5 or 1.6 but probably never faster than that. Smart AudioBook goes up to 2.5, which is far faster than I'd ever need.

I've never listened to a nonfiction audiobook yet that didn't benefit from bumping up the speed. With fiction, much depends on the reader. John Lee, for example, is excellent but a little draggy. Simon Vance, otoh, keeps things moving. I speed up the first; not the second.

Length of book also is a factor. Just to maintain my interest, I'm going to listen to virtually any book 20 hours or longer, whether fiction or nonfiction, at a faster clip.
